How do we define home?

CASAhome is a project that aims to investigate, reflect, think, value, raise awareness, share and show the diversity of how the concept of home is seen and felt. Not so much in order to have an arquitectural description, but in order to see how the house feels as a home.

An idea that I had almost ten years ago, but which had been postponed until now and that has suddenly become so relevant in this time of pandemic and confinement at home.

In 2011 I wrote:

I feel at home,
Where I feel protected,
Where I can walk barefoot,
Where I don't look at the clock waiting for the time to go,
Where I want to stay.
Home, the place from which I miss when I'm away.

And today, in 2020, how do we look at and feel the home, what has changed and what has stayed the same in this covid-19 experience ?

In this search for words to define CASAhome, what is more important? Your profession? Your age? Where we live? Where we come from? Our history? (Our) people? The environment? ...

How will define CASAhome as an architect, a lawyer, a scientist, a teacher, a biologist or a child?
Where does an immigrant / emigrant feel at home?
Where is our home? What is our house like?
What makes the house ours? Who is our home?

PHASE 1 of the project started in may. It was a research phase with 181 participations from as diverse a public as possible.
Each participant was asked to answer two specific questions and submited an accompanying item, which may be a photograph, an illustration, an object, a poem, a text, a word, a poster, a song or a collage.

From the contributions (texts and images) a reflection was made from all the information collected. Texts and illustrations was produced.

In PHASE 2 visual artists were invited. 7 Artists 7 Concepts
Body Home - Bárbara Fonte
Home as an Emotional Representation - Daniel Moreira
Architecture Home - Marta Maria Ferreira
Nature Home - Mafalda Paiva
Nest Home - António Melo
Changing Home - Inês Soares
Freedom Home - Murmuro

The entire process, the collection and processing of data, texts and images become an artistic book I created.

This website serves as a platform to give visibility to the project and share its phases

Thanks in to all who were interested in the project and participated!
